New Projects

In the Oracle Projects module, no project can be created without being associated with a project template.  This is why the ‘Template’ column exists in the worksheet.  Compulsory data item in each NEW project is a reference to the template and provides necessary set-up data such as project type, and many defaults at both project and task level.

It is not necessary to refer however to an actual template in this column.  You may refer to an existing project and Oracle Projects will apply the requirements and defaults from the original template via the project reference.

You must first create your templates in Oracle using the Oracle form under Setup>Projects>Templates.  It is not possible to create them using AMG (Activity Management Gateway in Oracle) and Project Wizard.

The template Project Number is stored in the ‘Template’ column of the worksheet.

It is not essential to have the template on the same line as the project to be uploaded.  Project Wizard searches upwards from the line containing the project until it finds a value.  Accordingly you could have only one template and multiple projects below.

Updates to Existing Projects

Please note the Template column in the worksheet is ignored for updates to existing Projects/Templates.

Populating the Template column

Users can either type or paste directly into the ‘Template’ column on the sheet but no validation is performed until you run the upload program.  Alternatively click on the ‘Forms’ icon and select the ‘Select Template’ button from the Project Wizard ribbon or double-click in the ‘Template’ column (below row 9).

The following form will display:

Select the template required from the list displayed.
Note - This list comes from your instance of Oracle as explained above.

If you wish to select an existing Project as your Template, remove the ‘Search for Templates only’ flag, then select the ‘Accept’ button.  This list of values will then be refreshed to include all projects, including the template projects.

Once the project template has been selected the LOVs can be used to validate the data as it is entered.
