The Bill of Materials Wizard was originally built with one spreadsheet template. Now the Wizard has been reinforced with the new modes and templating designs. With all five modes that have been added we now have different functionality across each mode.
The major residing difference is their component effectivity. For more detailed information on this refer to theEffectivity Controlsection of this document.
In this section of the user guide, we will focus on the primary functionality of creating a Bill of Materials through the above-mentioned modes. If there are any differences as we step through the process, they will be outlined.
There are three ways to populate information in the worksheet:
a)Import a file, type, or paste data directly into the cells provided. No Validation is performed until you run the ‘Validate only’, ‘Validate and Upload’ or ‘Validate Concurrent’ program or open the data entry forms. If you are pulling data from a CAD system or another product management system, we recommend making the output report in a format that fits nicely into your BOM Wizard layout to reduce the manual steps required to load your Bill of Materials data. You can use formulas and cell references to populate a cell.
b)Use the data-entry forms to enter information into the worksheet (Assembly Header, Component Details, Reference Designators, Substitute Components, Assigned Component Operations, DFF and Attachments forms). Information is validated and lists of values are available via the forms. To enter data in this way first position your cursor on the row you wish to contain the data. Then double-click in one of the cells or alternatively click on the ‘Forms’ icon on the Routing Wizard ribbon.
c)Use the ‘Download Form’ or ‘Download using sheet data’ buttons to download existing Bills of Materialsand associated components. You can then use one of the methods above to update information prior to loading it into Oracle.
The following sections will describe each of the forms within the Bill of Materials Wizard and the additional functionality for loading bills.
