The compare worksheet functionally is used to select two separate work sheets and highlight the difference in data between them. This can be initiated through the ribbon button depicted below:
When the sheets are compared a separate workbook is generated with all cells that contain differences highlighted.
Ensure before clicking the button that the sheet you want to compare is the sheet currently selected in the workbook. Clicking the ‘Compare Worksheets’ button will open a form that allows you to select the sheet you want to compare to the currently focused sheet.
Using the form, the left pane will show all available workbooks open at the current time to select from.
Note: Workbooks open in a separate instance will not appear in the list.
If the sheet to be compared is in a different workbook select that workbook.
When the workbook is selected a list will populate in the right-hand pane, this will list all sheets in the selected workbook.
Select the sheet to compare and select the ‘Compare’ button. A new workbook will be opened/created entitled ‘Book1’, this will contain all information regarding the two compared sheets and their differences. Cells that do not match will be highlighted in red and contain notations as to what does not match.
